enjoy the mild weekend because a winter storm is on the way. and crisis in ukraine, from the white house to the u.n. to moscow. also two brothers killed in gun fire on a d.c. street in front of a church. hello, i'm bruce johnson. thank you for joining us, everybody. the mild weekend expected to turn into sleet and snow come monday. go straight over to first alert meteorologist erica grow. she has been tracking the winter weather. >> that's why we have this winter storm watch in effect for the entire d.c. metro, from midnight until6:00 p.m. on monday. and we are expecting quite a bit of snow. it's going to start out as a wintry mix for all the areas that are shaded here in pink. this is monday morning and then changing over to snow. mostly all snow in western maryland and still looking at mostly rain in the very southern tip of maryland and

the northern neck of virginia but once we get into the afternoon hours on monday, it's mostly all snow even in the beltway and the mix to snow still hanging on but only in southern maryland and the eastern shore, so significant snowfall accumulations are likely throughout the entire metro. two components to this system that we can see right now, we are still tracking this system that is bringing the rain to southern california, it's starting to develop into what we call a four corners low, you can see the four corner states here and that is ejecting out of the rockies and will provide the moisture to coincide with the cold air that right now is still locked up in the upper plains. you can see that polar jet running along and bringing some of those snow showers. so in the metro we are still in good shape right now, we have one more day to make your preparations before this storm arrives and you have one more night to get out and enjoy before the storm arrives as well. overnight tonight, partly cloudy and not too cold, 28 to 36 degrees and the winds will be very light out of the south

televised meeting despite objections from permanent member russia. allison harmerland reports tonight. >> reporter: pro russian demonstrators stormed an administration building in the southern ukraine. after russia's president vladimir putin got the green light from parliament saturday to proceed with military intervention. russian troops have already taken over the peninsula in the south. in the ukraine's russian speaking east protesters raised russian flags and clashed with the newly elected ukrainn government. while u.s. officials stopped short of calling putin's actions an outright invasion, russia flown thousands of troops to the region where leaders who have urged russia not to intervene. members of the u.n. security council gathered here for an emergency meeting to address the rapidly deteriorating nation in the schlaffic --

ukraine, so it's been a 24 hour schedule and seeing that happen today, it felt like the floor fell out from beneath me. part of me said how could he do this and another part of me was almost expecting this. i was waiting for this to happen. so it's disappointing and it's scary because i do have family that is 20 kilometers from the russian border and speaking with them this morning, they are scared, they are keeping an eye out on everything that's going on and they are scared for their children as well. >> all ukraine wants is just to be -- just to be a regular country, just to be a country where people raise their children, pay their taxes, they have, you know, lego system, just to be like everybody else. they are not antirussian, antisemitic, they want for themselves and their families. >> what do you hope the president hears for you guys? >> i hope that he hears that we really need help and we really

two brothers gunned down in the agriculture. it happened last night at 50th and lee streets in northeast outside a church. suray chin talked with the victim's families. >> i miss my brothers dearly. i mean dearly. this is a hurting feeling. >> reporter: andre bryant mourns the loss of his two younger brothers, 34-year-old

kalid and 26-year-old jason bryant. the two were walking along lee street northeast outside antioch baptist church when they were gunned down just before 8:00 saturday night. >> just heard both of their voices thursday night, both of them thursday night, just a hurting feeling right now. >> the brothers were supposed to be meeting their sister for her birthday celebration but never made it. the siblings were all very close, they had lost their mother a while ago and very recently their father. but the two brothers who were killed were inseparable. two brothers, the best of friends, inseparable in life and tragically in death. >> two real playful, like to be outside, loved women, loved women. >> reporter: andre bryant is the oldest and would always look after his brothers. >> every time i was around them, i prepared to them, i be talking, i be talking like do the right thing, get on the

always watching, always tracking, wusa9's first alert weather. hi there, i'm first alert meteorologist erica grow. here's an outline of what we can expect heading through the next 48 hours, a wintry mix sunday night, one to 2 inches of sleet with maybe a little bit of freezing rain in there. changing to snow by sunrise on monday for most of us in the metro area. three to 6 inches on the ground throughout basically the entire metro before this is all said and done and the critical times 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. current temperatures are too warm for snow and it's only going to get warmer tomorrow. it's 44 right now in downtown

washington, and 43 in leesburg. going to see a warmup before that big cold air rush starts to move on in and you can see some of that colder air on satellite and radar making its way toward us as we head through the overnight sunday into monday morning. i wanted to show you this model output because it's the closest to what we expect to happen out of this system. close to 10 inches up in leesburg, about 6 inches in downtown washington and close to 8 inches in the fredericksburg area because that bull's-eye moisture looks to be further to the south of the beltway but then it's going to be that more galapagosy wet -- gloppy wet yellow snow. on the first alert seven-day forecast after a high of 56 on sunday we will bring in that snow and rain and then change over to all snow on monday during the day and we will have that accumulation ending by monday evening back to the sunshine but staying cold as we head through the middle of the workweek. bruce, back to you. dave statter is up with spor
